PTA President’s Corner Back To School 2017

Welcome back to our returning Coyote Families!  To our new Coyote Families, welcome to Curlew Creek Elementary!  I hope you have had a fun-filled summer, and it is with great enthusiasm that I invite you to get ready for another exciting and successful 2017-2018 school year.  We are very happy to have you as a part of our Coyote Family!

I am honored to be serving as your PTA President again this school year.  For the new families that don’t know me, I am originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee and received my BA in Logistics and Transportation from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (Go Vols!)  I moved to Florida 18 years ago, as I was recruited by a company called Jabil Circuit located in St. Petersburg.  Over the course of the last 18 years I have held multiple positions from Materials to IT during that time.  Three years ago my division was purchased by a company called iQor Inc.  For the last three years, I have been a Project Manager in IT.  My husband and I met on the softball fields here in Florida 16 years ago and celebrated our 12th anniversary this past April.  We have two beautiful daughters, Kaylin (2nd grade) and Mallory (4th grade).

The PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America.  It is with such great pleasure and honor that I get to lead our local unit at Curlew Creek Elementary for my 2nd year and with such an amazing Executive Committee.  The PTA is an organization that promotes collaboration among parents, the school and the community.  The number one reason to join the PTA is for your child.   Just because you can’t sit on Capitol Hill and fight for your child doesn’t mean that you can’t enable those that can and will!  Your child is important to you and they are important to us!  All Children are Our Children!

Our Executive Committee has been hard at work over the summer.  We strive to ensure that we find a way to touch and support each of our Coyote Families as best as possible.  Our focus this year will be on school beautification and community service.  We would love any input from our families so please feel free to contact us with ideas and/or ways you can help.  We welcome anyone who would love to be involved in any way.  We support our school in three different ways: programs, events and fundraisers.  Our programs are those clubs/activities that are offered to our families to help promote family and community involvement.  Events are designed to allow families to come together for a certain cause.  We strive for our fundraisers to not be a burden on the families but at the same time find a way to support our school to bring the best overall learning environment to our children.

Our Join the Pack! Membership Drive is under way.  I strongly encourage everyone to renew or start a new membership for only $8 for the first family member and $6 for any additional members.  Anyone from parent, grandparent, other family membesr or friends can be a Curlew Creek Elementary PTA Member.   This gives you a vote (voice) on how your fundraising dollars are spent towards our amazing events and programs.  And don’t forgot about our Benefit Provider Program where each of our Curlew Creek PTA members can receive special discounts/offers from local businesses around town.  Just another great reason to be Coyote PTA Proud!

We look forward to getting to know you and your family.  And our Executive Committee is working hard to ensure that we proudly serve all our families.  Our first encounter to meet will be during Meet the Teacher on August 8th for 2nd-5th grades from 2-3pm and August 9th for PreK-1th from 2-3pm.  This is a GREAT way to come meet your child’s teacher for the year and see their classroom.  Look for us in the hallways as we will have our spirit wear available for sale.  If you had pre-ordered anything, please feel free to come by and pick it up.  Then on the first day of school (August 10th) we will be hosting our Boo Hoo Yahoo breakfast in the Media Center from 8:30-9:30am.  Come meet and greet your PTA Executive Committee, SAC and other Coyote Families.  All are welcome!  Back to School Nights will be held from 6-7:30pm on August 22nd for Grades 3-5 and September 5th for Grades PreK-2nd.  During this night teachers will provide information about what your child’s school year will entail. There will be two sessions to help accomadate those families with multiple children.  Come visit us at our PTA tables setup in the hallway to learn more about what we do and how you can be a part of this amazing journey!

Please check our PTA website (www.curlewcreek.org) and “like” us on Facebook (Curlew Creek PTA) as we will keep you up-to-date on all events and programs throughout the school year.  Also make sure you connect to Peachjar flyers by signing up at https://www.peachjar.com/.  This year we will be implementing a Communication Folder.  This folder is to ensure that all our families are informed of activities and imporant information.  More information about it will be coming home, so check those backpacks!

We also have our first Astroskate event of the year on Wednesday, August 30th!  This is a great way for your child to burn some of that abundant energy off after school!  We will be departing right after school and will return to the school at 5:30pm that evening.  The cost of the bus round trip is $10 or you are welcome to bring your child to Astroskate and the admission will be $9 at the door.  Please look for the information to come home shortly after school starts.  All family members are welcome!  Remember if you are a PTA member then you can skate with your child for free just by showing your PTA card!

On behalf of the PTA Executive Board, we wish everyone a very wonderful year ahead and look forward to your continued support.  It is because of the strong volunteer efforts of our Coyote Familes and the dedication of the Curlew Creek administration, teachers and staff that we are able to offer so many academic and cultural activities throughout the school year.  Your contribution, whether it is your time, knowledge, or resources really do make a difference.  We invite you to become an involved member at Curlew Creek.  We currently have positions to fill and welcome you to be part of this wonderful association.  Please contact us at ccepta@gmail.com, go to http://curlewcreek.org/pta-committees/ or leave your information in the PTA box in the front office.  We also welcome any and all questions and suggestions throughout the year!

Sincerely,

Jenny Granger
