Book Club

Attention 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students and parents.  The Coyote Book Club will be starting soon!   The students are divided into groups and will read 7 Sunshine State books.  These books are selected each year by the Department of Education and are used in the school and county- wide Battle of the Books competitions that take place each spring.  Participation in Battle of the Books is not mandatory for book club members, but it is a good way to prepare for the competition.  This year, the Coyote Book Club will read the following titles:

Bernice Buttman, Model Citizen by Niki Lenz
Caterpillar Summer by Gillian McDunn
How I Became a Spy: a Mystery of WWII London by Deborah Hopkinson
Inkling by Kenneth Oppel
Klawde: Evil Alien Warlord Cat by Johnny Marciano and Emily Chenoweth
Planet Earth is Blue by Nicole Panteleakos
Strongheart: Wonder Dog of the Silver Screen by Candace Fleming

Book club offers the opportunity for students and parents to read together in small groups and discuss their favorite parts of the book.   At the end of each book, we will have breakfast treats to celebrate the students’ success.  Each student will be asked to donate a breakfast item one time during the year.

There is a $10 fee so each child will have 7 books to read during the year.  The books are returned and rotated from group to group each month.  This keeps our costs down.

We need parent group leaders to work with small groups.  It is a great opportunity to volunteer for parents who can’t volunteer during the school day.    If you have any questions, email Peggy Duncan at duncanm@pcsb.org.
