Sunshine State Readers

Sunshine State Readers
Sunshine State Readers is a statewide reading program for students in grades 3rd – 8th. The purpose of the program is to encourage students to read for the joy of reading. The books are selected by members of the Florida Association of Media in Education and the School Library Media Services Office of the Department of Education. Sunshine State Reader Books are chosen for the books appeal to students, curriculum standards, and varying genres. When the students finish reading a Sunshine State Reader the student then takes a qualifying test covering comprehension of the material. These test scores are then used to formulate teams for the Battle of the Books. Every student team competes in a quiz type competition on comprehension questions covering the 15 book titles chosen for that year. The winning team from the school’s Battle of the Books then goes on to the Regional competition. The school team must win twice at Regional’s to move onto the District competition.
